DGP Hopes Bharosa Centres Will Help Women Subjected to Abuse
Karimnagar: Director General of Police Dr Jitender inaugurated the ‘Bharosa’ Centre under the Women Safety Wing of the Telangana police department at Kothapalli Mandal in Karimnagar district on Sunday.
After inspecting the rooms, amenities, and facilities designed to support women, the DGP praised the centre's construction. “The Bharosa Centre has been wonderfully built on a 1,000-yard plot spanning 6,800 square metres. Services will start for women at the Bharosa Centre from Monday,” he stated.
The Bharosa Centres are being established across all commissionerates and districts in the state to provide support to women victims of sexual harassment and children subjected to inappropriate sexual behaviour. These centres offer assistance in a secure environment, separate from police stations and hospitals, ensuring a safer atmosphere for the victims.
Services provided at the Bharosa Centres include psychological support, police assistance, necessary medical aid, legal assistance, and victim support funds. Dr Jitender emphasised that the establishment of these centres will yield positive results in supporting victims. “The first Bharosa Centre was established in Hyderabad, followed by 27 additional districts,” he added.
In recent times, the conviction rate in sexual harassment cases has increased, and the Citizen Feedback System will further enhance the quality of services provided to the public, the DGP noted.
Officials present at the inauguration included police commissioner Abhishek Mohanty, Women’s Safety Wing DIG Rama Rajeshwari, trainee IPS Vasundhara Yadav, additional DCP Lakshmi Narayana, ACP Madhavai, inspector Srilatha, and other dignitaries.
