Hyderabad: A man stopped by the Shamshabad traffic police for drunk driving attempted to die by suicide on Tuesday. He sustained injuries and was rescued by the police personnel nearby and taken to a hospital where his condition is said to be stable.

Shamshabad circle inspector Narender Reddy identified the man as Chapala Siva, 25, of Mailardevpally. Police had stopped him near the Thondupally toll gate for a regular drunken drive check. On being found drunk, he was asked to step aside.

When Siva asked the cops to return his bike to him, they said they can only do it if he calls someone who is sober and in a position to drive. In the meantime, Siva attempted to die by suicide.
