Hyderabad: The state Congress on Thursday decided to invite party leader Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for a public meeting on the BC caste census slated to be held at Suryapet. AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge will attend a public meeting on SC categorisation in Medak district.

This was decided at a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting chaired by CLP leader and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The focus was the upcoming local bodies polls.

Revanth Reddy urged party MLAs and MLCs to interact with the people and explain the Congress government's people-friendly policies and initiatives like the BC caste census, SC categorisation and others. Reddy said they had access to the district in-charge minister and the AICC leaders with whom they could discuss their respective issues.

On some MLAs having dinner meetings, Reddy asked them to have such meetings at Gandhi Bhavan, where they could discuss party-related issues and try to come up with immediate solutions. If MLAs and MLCs have any issue, they can discuss with the district in-charge ministers, the Chief Minister, the AICC state in-charge or the AICC chief, he said.

Explaining the state's financial status, Reddy said that they had successfully completed BC caste census, SC categorisation and other schemes, which were promised during the Assembly elections. Rahul Gandhi had promised the BC caste census during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, and it was done in Telangana without any obstacles.

Some of the MLAs raised issues pertaining to their respective constituencies.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who holds the finance portfolio, explained about the debts and expenditure when the BRS was in power. He gave a power-point presentation about the state’s financial status.

Incidentally, it was the most comprehensive CLP meeting in 10 years where the MLAs and MLCs interacted with the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues.
