Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said that the state government was committed to transforming Hyderabad into a green city.

Speaking at the Green Telangana Summit-2025, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), he announced a comprehensive plan to replace all diesel vehicles plying in the city with electric vehicles, albeit in phases.

This initiative, he said, was part of a larger strategy to address environmental concerns and ensure that the city remains free from the air pollution.

"We have witnessed firsthand how people in Delhi are struggling because of pollution and extreme conditions. The Telangana government is determined to prevent the prevalence of such a tragic situation in Hyderabad,” the deputy CM said.
Bhatti stated that the government would even consider reducing registration charges for electric vehicles, despite the loss in revenue, in order to boost their adoption. The health and well-being of the people were more important than financial considerations, he stated.

The Deputy CM lauded the role of builders and real estate developers in the state’s growth, referring to them as "wealth creators" and "partners in development." He reassured the industry that the government would continue offering full cooperation to ensure smooth progress.

Stating that the upcoming fourth city project on the outskirts of Hyderabad was the "future city", he said they were keen on making it a global hub. Sustainability and environmental consciousness will be central to the net zero city proposal, he said.
He referred to the state’s new energy policy, which sets an ambitious target to generate 20,000 MW of green power by 2029-30 and realising the goal of 40,000 MW by 2035.

Bhatti said that a key part of the state government’s green initiative was the Musi River Rejuvenation project. After a decade of pollution issues along the river, the Congress government is committed to transforming the river into a fresh water source, contributing positively to the city's environment, he said.

He said that the Congress government has made a budgetary allocation of an unprecedented `10,000 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal for Hyderabad's development.

“This is the largest budget ever allocated to Hyderabad, marking the city's rise as a key player in the global economy,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the construction industry, Bhatti warned that any attempts to disrupt the development process through false propaganda would be sternly dealt with.

“The government will extend full cooperation to builders, recognising their contributions to the state’s growth,” he added.
The Deputy CM said that the Congress government's bold initiatives were attracting international attention as was evidenced by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his team’s recent visit to Davos, where they secured `1.8 lakh crore in investments for industries and IT/ITeS companies in and around Hyderabad.
