Ex-SIB chief gets US green card
Hyderabad:Following speculation that former SIB chief T. Prabhakar Rao, wanted in the phone-tapping case, had obtained a green card in the United States, the Hyderabad police are all set to write to the US Embassy seeking a confirmation.
Based on the US Embassy’s reply, action will be initiated against Prabhakar Rao. Sources said that they had sent proposals to the ministry of external affairs to revoke the passport of Prabhakar Rao, who went to the US after the case was registered.
"Even though Prabhakar Rao reportedly obtained a green card in the US, he is an accused in the phone-tapping case which is a serious crime and created national security breaches. Once the Red Corner notice was issued, the US authorities would send him back to India and the Hyderabad police will take action against him," sources claimed.
It was reported that Prabhakar Rao allegedly invested money and obtained a green card in the US to avoid the phone tapping case by staying further in the United States.
According to US visa rules, anyone could get a conditional green card for two years for investing between $500,000 (`4.21 crore) and $1.05 million (`8.85 crore) under the EB-5 immigrant investor programme.
