HYDERABAD: Farmers will receive Rythu Bandhu amount of Rs 5,000 per acre for the current kharif season too, official sources said. The Congress government's Rythu Bharosa to pay Rs 7,500 per acre will not be implemented for this kharif as the guidelines are yet to be finalised.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had earlier announced that guidelines would be framed for Rythu Bharosa after debating the issue in the upcoming Assembly session, set to be held next month.
Since the kharif season has started, and it would take time to hold Assembly session, the CM is learnt to have taken a decision to continue scheme at the existing level.
The Congress government had continued the previous BRS government's Rythu Bandhu of Rs 5,000 per acre for the rabi season. It started disbursal of the sum in December 2023 and covered all 65 lakh farmers in phases until May 2024.
The Chief Minister wants to impose certain restrictions on Rythu Bharosa to ensure that the benefit reaches genuine farmers/ land owners who are actually doing cultivation.
The previous BRS government extended Rythu Bandhu even to non-agriculture lands such real estate ventures, hillocks and land that were acquired by the government for roads, irrigation projects and other public purposes.
Revanth Reddy also wants to take feedback of all parties on whether to impose upper limit on land extent such as five acres or ten acres to extend the benefit or continue the existing method of giving Rythu Bandhu to all farmers irrespective of land extent they own.
The Congress government also intends to cover tenant farmers and agricultural labour under the scheme.
