GHMC clears garbage after DC’s report
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) staff cleared garbage from an open land parcel at Road No 12, Banjara Hills, following a report published in Deccan Chronicle on Monday highlighting woes that residents have been facing from the trash pile.
The dump yard that the land parcel at the prime locality has become of late was posing a health risk to people living in the vicinity, and some had been admitted to private hospitals in the area.
Following the Deccan Chronicle report, the GHMC pressed into service 10 sanitation staff, three supervisors along with a ‘bobcat’ loader and two heavy vehicles (tippers).
The cleaning activity commenced in the morning, and by evening, the staff had cleaned the site and the tonnes of waste that had accumulated over a long time was shifted to the Jawaharnagar dump yard.
“The garbage was piled up for a long time and it was very difficult to clean the area in a short span of time. Two heavy vehicles had to make two trips,” a GHMC official said.
“The cleaning task was strenuous. Most of the site has been cleaned now and our staff who started the work in the morning were present at the site till 7.30 pm. Yet some garbage was still left at the site, which will be removed on Tuesday,” he added.
Following the clean-up activity, the residents living in the vicinity thanked Deccan Chronicle and GHMC.
“This issue that was pending for years has been resolved. I thank Deccan Chronicle and the municipal corporation for it," said V. Ridhima, managing committee member of Sri Venkateswara Co-operative House Building Society.
Another resident from MLA Colony, Road No 12, Banjara Hills, said all grievances of the residents, including air pollution, mosquito menace, stray dog menace and rancid smell, had also addressed after the garbage was shifted.
