Goda Kalyanam Performed at Vishnu Avatar Temples of City

Hyderabad: The Sri Goda Krishna Kalyanam was celebrated at the Hare Krishna Golden Temple in Banjara Hills on Monday, marking the marriage of Goda Devi, considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, with Lord Sri Krishna in the form of Lord Ranganatha. The auspicious occasion marked the conclusion of the Dhanurmasam festivities.

Several temples dedicated to Vishnu and his avataras across the state, including the TTD temples in Himayathnagar and Jubilee Hills, the Venkateswara Swamy temples in Srinagar Colony, Charminar, Chikkadpally, Jillelguda, and the Jiyaguda Ranganatha Swamy temple, performed the Goda Kalyanam. Devotees gathered at temples to witness the wedding ceremony of the deities.

At the Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Malakpet, the deities' procession began at 10 am on the temple premises, followed by the Kalyanam at 10.30 am, accompanied by Vedic chants.

"We conducted the Tiruppavai Parayanam for 30 days, concluding today with the Kalyanam. Approximately 1,000 devotees from nearby areas participated in the Kalyanam," said temple chairman J. Mallikarjun Reddy.

"It is believed that participating in the wedding and 30-day Dhanurmasam Deeksha will bring blessings, and for those seeking marriage or children, their wishes will come true," said G. Vijaya Lakshmi, a devotee. "I feel blessed to witness the grand Goda Devi Kalyanam. I come here every year, and the Kalyanam fills my heart with peace and devotion," said S. Madhavi.

The 600-year-old Goda Ranganatha Swamy Temple at Edulabad, where Goda Devi is specially worshipped, "the Goda Kalyanam will be held on January 14 (Tuesday) at 10 am as per the Nakshatra. We will conclude the Dhanurmasam traditions with Neraatostavam on January 15," said temple priest T.P. Srivatsa.
