“We have not changed the statue as is being alleged by the BRS, because no such entity existed officially so far. There was no official Telugu Talli likeness so far, and now we have one. Why did the BRS government not take any steps in having an official, government-approved version of Telangana Talli,” Ponnam Prabhakar asked. (Image: Twitter)

Hyderabad: The Congress government on Monday made it clear that it was not changing the statue of Telangana Talli, and declared that till it took a decision on the matter. There was never any o official statue with the BRS government not making any effort on this front.

It was Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy who pointed out this aspect in his statement saying the BRS government never took a call on the subject while in power.

During a discussion on the Chief Minister’s statement, minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the existing Telangana Talli statues were affiliated with a political party. “We have not changed the statue as is being alleged by the BRS, because no such entity existed officially so far. There was no official Telugu Talli likeness so far, and now we have one. Why did the BRS government not take any steps in having an official, government-approved version of Telangana Talli,” he asked.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the BRS MLAs, and their leader in the House, former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, should have attended the session on Monday to express their views on the statue.

“Not everyone has to agree with the government. The leader of the principal opposition, KCR, along with KTR and Harish Rao should have taken part and expressed their views which would have been the right thing to do. Even during the heated debates on state formation during the unified AP’s Assembly session, everyone was heard, their opinions taken note of by the then Congress government.”

Bhatti also recalled “how KCR hailed Sonia Gandhi as the person who gave Telangana its statehood in the first ever session of the Telangana Assembly. Today is December 9, the day Sonia Gandhi, as UPA chairperson, ensured Telangana formation was announced. Today is a significant day, and everyone should have been in the House. The entire state is enveloped in a festive spirit but BRS does not want to be a part of it.”
