Government Places 66L Mt Cloth Order for Sircilla Handloom Industry
Karimnagar: The government is committed to supporting the Sircilla handloom industry to enhance its competitiveness in the market, said Government Chief Whip and Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas. He noted that the government has placed a bulk order for 66 lakh metres of fabric under the Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) to benefit the Sircilla handloom industry.
The MLA, along with Telangana Handloom and Jute department chief secretary Shailaja Ramayyar and district collector Sandeep Kumar Jha, participated in a review meeting with power loom owners and weavers at the Collectorate in Rajanna Sircilla district on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas announced that the government plans to channel cloth orders from all departments and provide two saris for each member of Women Self-Help Groups across the state through the handloom industry. Designs for the saris have already been prepared, and orders are expected to be placed soon.
To further boost the industry, the government has sanctioned Rs 50 crore for the establishment of a Yarn Bank in Vemulawada. This initiative aims to support the handloom and textile industry by procuring fabric under TESCO and offering yarn at 80 per cent credit to strengthen the state’s cotton industry.
The issue of providing electricity to the Sircilla handloom industry has been brought to the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and it is expected to be resolved soon. Additionally, the long-pending construction of Padmashali Bhavan is set to be completed.
Chief Secretary Shailaja Ramayyar stated that the government is preparing an action plan to ensure six months of continuous employment for all handloom and power loom workers in the district. For the remaining six months, she encouraged workers to seek employment in the private sector.
She further emphasised the importance of utilising the Yarn Bank to ensure the supply of necessary materials and to promote the economic growth of handloom workers.
