Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday said the state government aimed to position Telangana as the textile capital of South Asia by 2047 by developing the apparel manufacturing industry. He said the vision is to ensure garments made in Telangana are worn globally.

Addressing the Asian Textile Conference 2026 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre, he said the government would provide infrastructure, land, power, water, incentives and expedited approvals to support investors. He said that the state’s industrial policies were aligned with global standards and that Telangana’s strength lay in its skilled workforce. He invited investors to partner in building a complete textile ecosystem.

Reganth Reddy said the government was working across the value chain, from cotton cultivation to global fashion platforms in cities such as London, New York, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and Dubai.

Referring to Hyderabad’s growth in the film sector, he noted that Netflix had launched Eyeline Studios in the city and said the government would encourage the industry to source fashion requirements locally.

Revanth Reddy said green textile hubs would be developed with a focus on environmental protection. He added that skill development programmes would train youth, particularly women, in combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design and production techniques.

Highlighting the state’s textile heritage, he referred to traditions such as Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal saris, Warangal durries and Narayanpet handlooms, and said Telangana remains a major producer of high-quality cotton. He also cited the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park as a key initiative in building a textile ecosystem.

He said the state is also advancing in sectors such as deep tech, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, aerospace, defence manufacturing and energy, and reiterated the goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.

Industries minister D. Sridhar Babu said the textile sector is being developed as a vehicle for social equity, particularly for weavers. He said the aim is to enable weavers to move beyond labour roles to become entrepreneurs with institutional support.

He said the government is integrating modern technology with traditional practices such as the charkha to promote the “Made in Telangana” brand globally, describing it as a “New Swadeshi” approach.

Sridhar Babu said the state is building global linkages through fashion corridors and circular economic hubs, with efforts to showcase Telangana’s craftsmanship on international platforms in cities such as Milan and New York.

He said the long-term goal is to position the textile sector as a centre for innovation and intellectual leadership, adding that technologies such as blockchain, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence are being used to improve transparency and efficiency across the supply chain.
