Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that the Congress government's "Indiramma Palana" has become synonymous with welfare for all.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction with the Gruha
Jyothi scheme, which has positively impacted over 10.52 lakh families within
the GHMC limits by providing "zero electricity bills" for households that
consume less than 200 units of electricity per month.
The Chief Minister’s comments came in response to reports showing a
significant increase in the number of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries. Since the
scheme's launch in March, the number of beneficiaries under GHMC limits has
grown by 20.71 per cent.
The GHMC has more than 50 lakh domestic consumers, with the number
increasing by approximately two lakh consumers each year. Of these, 20.71
per cent are availing themselves of the free power benefit.
Notably, the south zone, which includes the Old City, has witnessed a 54.07
per cent rise in beneficiaries, from 63,895 in March to 98,441 currently.
The Banjara Hills circle has reported the lowest number of beneficiaries, at
36,657.

The scheme’s benefits are not limited to those already enrolled. Reports
indicate that nearly two lakh consumers holding ration cards are eligible
for the free power scheme but have not yet availed of it, as they exceed the
200-unit usage limit. Official sources have encouraged these households to
reduce their consumption to below 200 units in order to qualify for the
subsidy.
