Telangana HC Denies Anticipatory Bail to Actor Mohan Babu

Hyderabad: In a setback to actor Manchu Mohan Babu, former MP, the Telangana High Court on Monday rejected his request for anticipatory bail in the attempt to murder case registered against him in relation to an attack on a TV journalist on December 10.

Justice K. Lakshman of the High Court dismissed the criminal petition filed by Mohan Babu, who sought anticipatory bail on the grounds of health.

Mohan Babu submitted to the court that he was 78 years old and was suffering from loss of memory, anxiety, heart- and nerve-related problems and medical supervision was mandatory.

He also submitted to the court that he had visited Dubai last week, to visit his grandchild, and came back to India and was stationed in Tirupati to look his educational institutions as their founder and chairman.

Counsel for the journalist submitted that Mohan Babu had attacked his client and attempted to kill him.

Additional public prosecutor V. Jitendhar Rao opposed the anticipatory bail petition and submitted that Mohan Babu had gone to the hospital, where the victim was admitted after the attack.

Mohan Babu had attacked the reporter who had gone to the actor’s residence in Jalpally to cover the ongoing dispute between the veteran actor and his actor son Manchu Manoj.

Pahadishareef police initially registered a case under Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 118 (1) (causing hurt with dangerous weapons or substances) against Mohan Babu, and later added Section 109 (attempt to murder).
