Hyderabad: In a major relief to BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao, the Telangana High Court on Tuesday suspended the orders of the Principal Sessions Court at Bhupalpally, which led to the registration of a case and summons to them on a private complaint with regard to the damages to the Medigadda barrage.

Justice K. Lakshman of the High Court observed that the orders of the Sessions Court at Bhupalpally were “absurd” and asked how such orders could be issued.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Chandrashekar Rao and Harish Rao, who requested quashing of the orders passed by Principal Sessions Court at Bhupalpally on July 10, 2024, directing the registry to number the complaint and issue notices.

The complaint was filed by Nagavelli Rajalingamurthy, who had alleged that Chandrashekar Rao, Harish Rao and other irrigation department officials were responsible for the sinking of the piers of the Medigadda barrage due to their lack of planning and taking a decision to construct the barrage in an area which could not support huge constructions. He contended that they were punishable on charges of the misappropriation of public money.

The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to Rajalingamurthy, directing him to file his response to the notice and adjourned the criminal petition filed by Chandrashekar Rao and the others to January 7.

The High Court directed public prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao to file the counter on behalf of the state government. The judge observed that he had gone through every line of the Sessions Court orders and found that they were issued contrary to the Supreme Court directions as well as those of the High Court.
