Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government and Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGSPSC) to file their contentions in the petition challenging the amendment in not applying rule of reservation in respect of each category of reserved candidates independently in the 1:50 ratio (50 times) to the main written examination of Group-1 services.

The petitioners challenged the Notification No. 2/2024, dated 19-02-2024, and also questioned GO Ms No. 29, dated 08-02-2024, through which GO Ms No. 55, dated 25-04-2022 was amended. All the petitioners belong to reserved categories, including BC-B (B), SC, ST and BC (A).

Senior counsel Alloori Giridhar Rao, representing the petitioner, submitted that the commission had in the instant case taken 50 times the total number of vacancies to appear for the main examination. Thereafter, the short fall of reserved candidates is further taken from the remaining pool.

Counsel pointed that such a recruitment procedure is not prescribed in states or the UPSC selection. This procedure is contrary to the scheme of reservation and law laid down by the Supreme Court. The court issued notices and adjourned the hearing to September 27.
