Health Checks Ordered for all Students in Telangana Gurukul Schools

Karimnagar:Backward class welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday ordered district collectors to conduct medical tests of all students at SC, ST, BC and minority gurukul residential schools and colleges across the state.

He directed collectors to take steps to prevent incidents that took place in Peddapur gurukul residential school and junior college of Metpally mandal in Jagtial district.

In view of monsoon, there is a possibility of seasonal diseases. Principals of gurukul schools and colleges must take measures to keep the surroundings of institutions along with hostels and classrooms clean, the minister said.

Students must be provided with balanced and nutritious diet and steps must be taken to maintain hygiene in kitchens, the minister said.

If any student falls ill, they must be given immediate medical treatment under the supervision of ANMs. The height and weight of students must be recorded. Students must undergo hemoglobin and vitamin-D tests and they must be made aware of cleanliness and personal hygiene, he added.
