Hyderabad: Begumpet police on Wednesday arrested an automobile thief and recovered 59 bikes worth Rs 42 lakh from his possession.

The accused, Rayudu Chaitanya Sai Kumar, 38, confessed to have stolen the vehicles since his release from jail in April. Mahdyanapu Jagadeesh, 28, who purchased the bikes from him, was also arrested.

Sai Kumar, a habitual offender, stole the vehicles from Paradise, Uppal, LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Balanagar and Nagole.

After thefts, he sold the bikes to people by creating fake online RCs, police said.

After stealing the bikes, he kept them at the Secunderabad Railway Station and the Jubilee Bus Stand to avoid tracing, police said.

People were told to take precautions while parking their vehicles like using double locking and fuel lock and not to park their vehicles at unsecured places for long, North Zone DCP S. Rashmi Perumal said.
