Hyderabad: A number of BJP leaders paid floral tribute and planted saplings to mark the death anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at the state party office in Nampally.

Union minister for coal and mines G Kishan Reddy, BJP OBC Morcha national president Dr K Laxman, BJP national co-in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Dr Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, BJP general secretary (Organisation) Chandrasekhar Tiwari, party general secretaries Dr Kasam Venkateshwarlu, Gujjula Premender Reddy and others took part in the programme, which is being observed as `Balidan Diwas'.

Sudhakar Reddy recalled the sacrifices of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee for the unity and integrity of the country. He sacrificed his life in 1953 for "one country, one head of state, one constitution and one flag.'. The then Congress government added Article 370 to the constitution, and made a serious harm to the national integrity. Dr Mukherjee resigned as a Union minister and started a massive movement to remove Article 370 from Kashmir for the integrity of the country. By abolishing Article 370 in Kashmir, the BJP government has kept its promise of 'one country, one head of state, one constitution and one flag, " he said.
