Hyderabad: Next time, when you visit any pub in order to chill out, be vary of falling for the guiles of drug peddlers lurking in the shadows. Officials from the excise enforcement department have brought a number of drug detection kits with which they identify drug consumers at pubs in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda limits.

As a preliminary exercise, the officials used the kits on Sunday night by conducting surprise checks in around 25 pubs in the three commissionerates. However, no single drug detection case was reported.

Excise enforcement director V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said that they had framed certain guidelines for allowing customers in city pubs and these guidelines have been circulated to all pubs in the city. This is more so because many drug peddlers target pub goers for selling banned substances.

The department officials, armed with drug detection kits, will continue to raid pubs on a regular basis.

Cases will be registered against customers found consuming drugs. Sunday’s raids were conducted in 25 popular pubs located at prime locations in Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Filmnagar and Begumpet, among others.
