Hyderabad Hosts 7th Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Music Festival

Hyderabad: Sangitanjaly Foundation, in collaboration with the government’s Department of language and culture, said it would be hosting the 7th Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan National Festival of Music on November 16 and 17 at Ravindra Bharathi.

Day 1 will witness Manish Kumar’s dhrupad recital, followed by Hindustani classical vocal by Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty, a Padma awardee, accompanied by Gourab Chatterjee on the harmonium and Yashwant Vaishnav on the tabla. Day 2 features Grammy-winning Mohan Veena maestro Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Pt. Ronu Majumdar on flute, with a collaborative finale between Bhatt and Majumdar, supported by Himanshu Mahant on tabla.

The festival, curated by Abhijeeth Bhattacharjee and Prodyut Mukherjee, honours the revered Hindustani vocalist Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, whose legacy is deeply tied to Hyderabad. His final resting place at Daira Mir Momin, Charminar, underscores the city’s significance in his life.

Organised in aid of children at the Autism Ashram, the festival promotes Indian music while espousing social causes.

The organisers spoke about Ustad’s connection with Hyderabad’s culture, citing his contributions to Indian classical music, including timeless compositions like “Ka Karoon Sajni.”
