Hyderabad: Less Paddy Procured as Market Price Was Higher

 Hyderabad: The State Civil Supplies Corporation has informed that by the end of rabi season, around nine lakh farmers were paid Rs 10,547 crores in just three days for the 48 lakh metric tonnes of paddy procured from them. Timely payments were made in line with the orders given by CM A. Revanth Reddy.

The corporation which started operations early by March 25 opened 7,178 purchase centres this rabi season. Only 6,889 centres were opened in last rabi season. The season came to an end on June 30. The corporation had initially set a target of 75.40 lakh metric tonnes but as rates in the open market were higher there was a fall in the quantity procured.

The corporation had made arrangements at the purchase centres to avoid losses to farmers owing to heavy winds and untimely rains. Even paddy soaked in rains was purchased. Millers who had defaulted in delivering custom milled rice earlier were not made any allotments this season. Only those who had returned 100 percent of paddy were given allocations. Of the 1,532 millers who had defaulted, cases have been filed against 116 under the Revenue Recovery Act.
