Hyderabad: The Rangareddy district court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment for the murder of his father in April 2024 in Adibatla. The accused was identified as Tirupati Anurag, a resident of Orange Avenue Colony at Turkayamjal.

Police said Anurag had been struggling with a severe addiction to ganja. His father, Tirupati Ravinder, 60, a businessman, tried to help Anurag. This caused tensions between them.

On April 4, Anurag locked his mother Tirupati Sudha in a bathroom. He then poured petrol on Ravinder, who was having lunch, and set him on fire. Ravinder ran out of the house in flames, but Anurag chased him, pouring more petrol and killed him by smashing his head with a large stone.

The murder was reported by Sudha. The investigation, led by Adibatla inspector S. Raghavender Reddy, included the testimony of 20 witnesses and a detailed examination of scientific evidence.
