Hyderabad: Many parts of the city came to a standstill following two hours of heavy rains on Monday afternoon. Water clogging led to traffic jams across colonies. A saving grace was that on account of Raksha Bandhan most educational institutions and commercial establishments remained closed, although the situation remained terrible during those few hours.

The worst hit areas were Shaikpet and Tolichowki, where cars remained submerged in deep waters.

Other affected areas included Madhapur, Krishna nagar, Madhura nagar, Yousufguda, Kukatpally, Khairatabad, Abids, Himayatnagar and Rajendranagar. Due to water clogging, traffic moved at a snail’s pace in Nanal Nagar, Gachibowli, Raidurgam, Mehdipatnam, Masab tank, Lakdikapul and Mozamjahi market. Police and GHMC personnel cleared the clogging and traffic.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has warned of more rains, lightning and strong winds till Wednesday.

The social media was flooded with videos of several affected areas, especially the Shaikpet nala. Cyberabad police in a post on their social media handle advised people against taking the Shaikpet flyover.
