Hyderabad: South Central Railways is operating 140 special trains for the Maha Kumbh Mela. Railway authorities reported that these trains have already carried approximately 1.3 lakh reserved passengers.

A press release noted that on February 9 alone, a record 330 trains operated from eight railway stations in the Prayagraj area, transporting about 12.5 lakh passengers back home. Indian Railways scheduled trains at four-minute intervals from these stations to ensure devotees did not have to wait after their holy bathing.
In total, 179 special trains are planned for the Kumbh Mela period, with 140 originating and terminating within the South Central Railway zone and an additional 39 passing through the zone from other regions. These trains are scheduled to run on various dates in February, and March 2025.
Most services will operate via Prayagraj Chheoki, Prayagraj, or Varanasi, connecting to key destinations such as Gaya, Patna, Azamgarh, Banaras, Gomatinagar (Lucknow), Danapur, and Raxaul. The special trains originate from multiple SCR stations including Secunderabad, Charlapalli, Moula Ali, Guntur, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Narsapur, Nanded, Aurangabad, Tirupati, Bidar, Vikarabad, and Machilipatnam.
