Hyderabad: HYDRAA commissioner A. V. Ranganath on Saturday organised a workshop on legal issues pertaining to HYDRAA. The workshop brought together senior lawyers, retired officials and experts from various fields to discuss the pressing challenges and legal measures required to safeguard lakes and government properties in Hyderabad.

The experts stressed the importance of reviving lakes and ensuring storm water channels remain functional to mitigate urban flooding. They noted that interruptions in the interconnected lake systems are causing severe water-logging even after a moderate rainfall.

Participants highlighted the need for strict enforcement of laws and better inter-departmental coordination. They also called for measures to prevent unauthorised registrations in illegal layouts and misuse of public spaces identified in master plans.

Suggestions included constructing elevated roads across lakes to maintain natural water flow and preventing illegal landfills in buffer zones by using advanced mapping tools like NRSA and Survey of India data.

Prominent attendees included High Court senior advocates Rasu Mahender Reddy and K. Ravinder Reddy, retired deputy collectors and legal and revenue experts.

They emphasised that protecting lakes and government land is essential for ensuring a sustainable environment and a better future for Hyderabad.
