HYDERABAD: Nava Kumar Tupili, a native of NTR district, Andhra Pradesh, was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday after being arrested for sexual solicitation of a minor.

Authorities said Kumar, who was living in Michigan on a revoked student visa, was arrested on April 20 by ICE and the department of homeland security for attempting to pursue sexual intentions with a minor. He was charged with sexual solicitation of a minor, attempted kidnapping, attempted second‑degree sexual offence, and fourth‑degree sexual contact.

ICE said the student visa of the accused was revoked in 2024, making him an illegal alien. “ICE took custody of Nava Kumar Tupili, a criminal illegal alien and convicted child predator from India, in Wayland, Michigan, after the county jail honoured an ICE detainer,” the agency stated.

Thirteen other men from different countries were separately arrested for sexual assault on a child and attempted human trafficking.

Kumar completed engineering from JNTU, pursued his Master’s at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2024, and was working with UPS as a Python developer.
