Indiramma applications till December 31: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday said that the state government had taken up the scrutiny of applications for the Indiramma Houses scheme in a strict manner to ensure all poor people get houses under the scheme.

The minister conducted a video conference at the secretariat on Wednesday with Chief Minister's advisor Vem Narender Reddy and Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari on examination of Indiramma House applications, conduct of Group-II examinations, increase in mess charges, social survey and other issues.

The minister said that the government received 80 lakh applications for Indiramma houses and acceptance of applications should be completed by December 31. The survey details should be recorded in the mobile app.

An employee (surveyor) should be appointed for every 500 people. Indiramma committee members should also be involved in the survey process. If Indiramma committees have not been formed anywhere in the state, they should be formed immediately, and an announcement should be made in the village the night before the survey is to be conducted.

Moreover, collectors should make plans based on local conditions, conduct a survey in a transparent manner without leaving out a single application and without leaving room for minor mistakes. Collectors should review the survey details every day, a toll-free number should be set up in every district center for complaints and suggestions. The construction of Indiramma houses is a continuous process this year, the minister said, adding we are going to build 4.5 lakh houses.

"The previous government did not increase the mess charges of students in government hostels even once in 10 years. Our government took a key decision by increasing the mess charges by 40 per cent in less than a year. This decision has benefited 7.65 lakh students. Collectors shall inspect the hostels frequently and focus primarily on the quality and quantity of the goods provided to the students. On December 14, ministers, MLAs, MLCs and MPs will visit the local welfare hostels and have joint meals with students there. Parents of students should also participate in this program," the minister said.
