Hyderabad: Some heartwarming scenes and euphoric moments were all over Rosary Convent High School, one of the premium education institutions for girls, at Gunfoundry here on Saturday.

‘Students’ were visibly ecstatic after meeting their batch mates after several decades.

The school has produced some top bureaucrats, educationalists, economists, judges, lawyers, doctors, philanthropists and artists, among several other illustrious products.

An year-long celebration has been got up to commemorate its 120 years since inception. Its alumni association, Rose, which completed 20 years, organized an event at their alma mater in which most of the batches, including from the 1960s, turn up in impressive numbers. In a touching scene, some of the old teachers and students made their entry on wheelchairs. Many had wrinkled skin and grey hair.

What caught the eye amid the lively cultural activities, which featured songs, dances, speeches and ‘best dressed’ competition, was their dress code-they all came in white and green attire, symbolic of their school uniform.

Anitha Reddy, from the 1976 batch, who is now principal of a Osmania University college, was bang on, “More than nostalgia, it was a sense of gratitude as I stepped into the school this evening for the reunion. Those were the formative years where we had the opportunity for our all-round development. We had teachers with great values we were fortunate to enjoy value-based education.”

She added, “Having captained the basketball team for three years, I could hone my leadership skills. I was elected as the sports secretary. The early grooming is helping me head an educational institution without compromising on values. I lived up to the Rosary Covent motto ‘truth and charity’. I work with slum children and help them with education. I will be ever grateful to my teachers, who instilled such values in me.”

Meanwhile, the school’s nostalgia gallery is a standout. Most head girls and house captains have deposited their badges, while some came with old group photographs and the art works they created in those days.

Maria Clara from the batch of 1987, who was one of the four felicitated on the occasion, said “it’s a nostalgic visit. It felt wonderful coming back to school. Our teachers shaped our personalities and exhorted us to be responsible citizens and give something back to the society. I am grateful to all of them.”

Batch of 2018 student Syeda Lababa Fatima, Subiah Balala, Samiah Maheen and Urooj Fatima, a group of friends, said “coming back to school and recollecting the good old days, well the feeling is beyond words, inexplicable.”

Elizabeth Paul said “We got an opportunity to meet our teachers, interact with them and recalling our school days, the march past et al.”

Marle Fernandez said that several ‘girls’ came from other cities. “This is one of the most memorable days of my life,” she said.
