Kishan Reddy Accuses Congress of Attacking Ambedkar’s Legacy

Update: 2024-12-20 18:31 GMT

Hyderabad:Union minister G. Kishan Reddy alleged that the Congress was frustrated over its series of defeats in state polls and resorting to cheap gimmicks to halt Parliament proceedings, attacking NDA MPs and demeaning the architect of the Constitution Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

Talking to newsmen after meeting injured MPs at RML Hospital in Delhi on Friday, Kishan Reddy charged that the Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was shedding crocodile tears about Ambedkar. Expressing shock over the alleged attack by Rahul Gandhi and his supporters on two NDA MPs in the Parliament, Kishan Reddy said that the Congress had a history of insulting Ambedkar, defeating him in the direct elections and even had put pressure to remove him from the Union Cabinet. The party has given Bharat Ratna to three members of the Nehru family, but denied the same award to Ambedkar, who is regarded as the founding father of the Indian Republic, he said.

Kishan Reddy alleged that Congress had insulted Ambedkar at every level and refused to put his portrait in the Central Hall of the Parliament. The people in general and Dalit communities in particular are aware of how Congress had ditched Ambedkar and they had rewarded the party by defeating it in every election. “The Congress had realised that it was fast losing ground in the country and resorting to cheap political gimmicks. On the other hand, the Narendra Modi-led government is working to realise the ideals of Ambedkar and developed all the places associated with him as tourist destinations as “Panch Teerth”, he said.

“There is nothing wrong if Rahul Gandhi tries to look young by wearing a T-shirt. But considering himself as a youth and attacking our party MPs is highly concerning. The entire society is condemning the action of Rahul Gandhi. Owning responsibility for such an action, Rahul Gandhi must seek an apology from the nation,” Kishan Reddy demanded.

The BJP MPs from Telangana including Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BJP politburo member Dr K. Laxman visited the RML Hospital, where injured MPs Chandrapratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput are undergoing treatment.

The BJP MPs from Telangana including D.K. Aruna, Etala Rajender, Gudem Nagesh and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy have staged a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue by holding placards demanding action against Rahul Gandhi and others for attacking a tribal woman MP and others.
