KVIC supports artisans with new tools

Hyderabad: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) state office organised an event for the distribution of electric pottery wheels, mobile repairing toolkits and machinery under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) on Thursday, at the Ni-MSME auditorium in Yousufguda. KVIC chairman Manoj Kumar attended the event as the chief guest.

This initiative aims to help artisans by providing them with modern tools and training to enhance productivity and income generation. During the event, 100 electric pottery wheels and 20 mobile repairing tool kits were distributed to beneficiaries. These electric pottery wheels are a significant upgrade from traditional hand-operated ones, simplifying the pottery-making process and improving efficiency. Participants underwent a 10-day training program to learn how to use these tools effectively. The initiative caters to individuals aged 18 and above, ensuring inclusivity across different age groups.

Speaking on this occasion, Manoj Kumar said that khadi has evolved into a nationwide movement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “In his Mann Ki Baat, the PM has highlighted how khadi has become a symbol of Indigenous innovation, self-reliance and environmental sustainability.” He noted that in the past four years, Telangana has seen over 2,370 artisans trained and 2,644 toolkits distributed under the GVY.

Nagalakshmi, a 23-year-old beneficiary from Nizampet, expressed her gratitude with Deccan Chronicle, sharing that the training equipped her with essential skills, including pottery-making techniques and marketing strategies. She said the support from KVIC would help her build a stable livelihood.

Chairman Manoj Kumar also highlighted the success of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), which has facilitated the establishment of 18,243 new units in Telangana in the past decade, generating employment for over 1.67 lakh people with a subsidy amounting to `665.40 crore.

The event concluded on an optimistic note, reinforcing the KVIC's commitment to empowering rural entrepreneurs, promoting self-reliance, and driving sustainable economic growth through skill development and resource distribution under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana.
