Hyderabad: The city police arrested a 28-year-old person from the old city for lifting vehicles parked at the government hospitals in twin cities. He had stolen the vehicles parked near the hospitals taking advantage of the absence of surveillance cameras.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammed Sameer, an air-conditioner technician and resident of Falaknuma. After committing vehicle thefts, he used to drive them for a few days and sold them to receivers, who were running scrap business at Musheerabad.

The receivers would then dismantle some vehicles into spare parts and keep them in their shop to dispose of them later. The police recovered five vehicles intact and four other vehicles, which were dismantled into spare parts from receivers. The worth of the stolen vehicles was Rs.4 lakh, the police said.

According to police, Sameer, after completing SSC in Kalapathar, started working as a labor in a petrol pump in Afzalgunj. Later, he joined as an AC technician. Since then, he got addicted to drinking and consuming ganja.

Sameer later started facing financial problems to meet his expenses to lead a lavish life. To meet the expenses, he decided to steal vehicles and sell them to get money. He used to focus on the parking places at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, Osmania General Hospital (OGH) at Afzalgunj, and Government Unnani Hospital in Charminar to steal vehicles.

When his mother was admitted to OGH, he noticed surveillance cameras were not installed at the parking places and accordingly succeeded in committing thefts, the police said.
