Warangal: In a major blow to the banned Maoist party, senior leader Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar, carrying a reward of ₹50 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter in Kanker, Bijapur district, two days ago. The encounter also claimed 17 other Maoists, including another Telangana-region leader, Narsimha Rao.

Chokka Rao, who hailed from Kalvapalli village in Tadavi mandal of Mulugu district, had assumed the role of state secretary just six months ago. He was one of the most wanted Maoists for nearly three decades, operating extensively in Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
The Maoist party itself confirmed the casualties, releasing a letter from South Bastar Maoist Committee secretary Ganga that verified the deaths of Chokka Rao and the others.
