HYDERABAD: In a joint operation, revenue, panchayat and irrigation officials on Thursday demolished a four-storey building that was built at Malkapur Pedda Cheruvu in Sangareddy district.

The structure was constructed between 2012 and 2013 above the lake in Qutb Shahipet area under Survey No. 93 of Malkapur gram panchayat.

Owned by a Patancheru resident, it was constructed 12 years ago when the Malkapur Pedda Cheruvu had dried up. The structure was erected over 12 pillars to ensure that the water does not enter the building.

Incidentally, long stairs leading to the building were constructed in such a way that there was no need to step into the water. Locals said that the owner's family used the location as a weekend retreat. It also boasted of a swimming pool and water fountains.

Tens of villagers gathered near the structure to see the demolition. Detonators were placed in the morning, and the building collapsed after the detonators exploded. Debris from the demolition left two persons injured.

An official said that they have issued notice to the owners, and will take action soon.
