Mulugu Collector warns of strong action against ill-treatment of parents

Godishala Sammakka, a native of Nallagunta of Venkatapur mandal, approached district collector Diwakar and lodged a complaint against her sons alleging that after the death of her husband, she was not looked after by her sons.

Warangal: Actions under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 will be taken against those who neglect, ill-treat and do not look after the well-being of their aged parents, said district collector T. S. Diwakar here in Mulugu on Sunday.

Not only senior citizens Act, even Telangana assigned land POT (Prohibition of Transfers) Act 1977 will be applied against children who after grabbing the land illegally do not look after their parents, he added.|

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, collector T. S. Diwakar said they receive several complaints from aged people during grievance day about their sons ill-treating them. The officials of the concerned departments are instructed to give counselling to their sons first to look after their parents.

If any person does not listen to them even after counseling, officials are asked to take actions as per Senior Citizens Act, he added.

Mamidishetty Chinna Mallaiah, an aged parent, a native of Jakaram village of Mulugu mandal, urged officials to do justice to him as his two sons were not looking after him, the RDO Satyapal Reddy along with local tahsildar Vijay Bhaskar carried out an inquiry.

After confirming that his sons illegally transferred the land to their names, the officials imposed TS (POT) 1977 Act and transferred the land back on to the name of Mallaiah and issued orders to his sons to look after their aged father, otherwise actions will be taken against them as per Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

With the orders issued by the collector, the officials carried out an inquiry and gave counseling to her sons. They also ordered Sammakka's two sons to give her Rs.2,000 each every month for her medical expenses and warned them that cases against them will be lodged if they do not look after their mother.
