Hyderabad: Works pertaining to 39 sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 972 million litres a day will commence in August.

The STPs, coming at a cost of an estimated Rs 3,849.10 crore, are part of the state government’s comprehensive sewerage master plan (CSMP) to stop polluted water from reaching the Musi and to treat the sewage generated in areas between GHMC jurisdiction and the ORR). It is being funded by the Centre’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.

The BRS government had a similar proposal but the dozens of colonies outside GHMC limits were not included. These new 39 STPs are located outside the GHMC limits but within the ORR jurisdiction.

They will be built by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) under the Musi River Front Development Project.

“The state government will accord sanction of 30% of the estimated cost and the union government will chip in with a similar percentage. Agencies that will be awarded STP contracts will take care of the remaining amount,” said HMWS&SB managing director Sudarshan Reddy, while interacting with reporters here on Friday.

Narsingi, Ameenpur, ICRISAT, Nagaram Lake, Kuntloor and Meerpet Talab are some of the 39 locations where these STPs are proposed.

Meanwhile, nine of 31 STPs are in operation, while the remaining will be completed by December, he said.

"The STP at Nagole will be completed by October and the ones located in Amberpet, Attapur-2 and the remaining treatment plants will be completed by December,” he said.
