Nalgonda: Two robbers attacked a family when their car had stopped beside busy National Highway No 65 at Peddakaparvthi of Chityal mandal in the early hours of Sunday and fled with five talas of gold ornaments.

The incident took place at 3.45 am when Pallepu Panchakshari, along with his family, was going to Hyderabad in a car from their native place Thotlapalem of Amalapuram mandal in East Godavari district.

Panchakshari, who drove the car, stopped the vehicle at Peddakapaparthi for a brief relief. Even though the doors of the car were locked from inside, the miscreants broke the glass using rocks and forcibly pulled the family members out of the car.

According to Chityal sub-inspector Saida Babu, two persons, who wore T shirts and covered their faces with handkerchiefs, attacked Panchakshari, his wife Akhila, his sister Shruthi and his son Devamsh with stones, leaving them injured. The family members had stopped the car in the parking bay at 2.30 am and the attack took place at 3.45 am.

The miscreants robbed a gold ring weighing 10 grams from Panchakshari and two gold chains weighing 40 grams from Shruthi.

The police went to the spot on receiving and shifted the victims to Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Narketpally by an ambulance for treatment. Although members of the family were injured in the attack, none of them were serious.

Police superintendent

Chandana Deepthi visited the spot and inquired about the incident. She said a special police team has been formed to identify and nab the persons involved in the incident.

Two years back, the district police had arrested a gang which robbed vehicles including lorry drivers on Narketpally-Adhanki state highway. The district police are checking whether members of the same gang have any role in the latest robbery on NH 65.

The robbery has highlighted the need to increase police trolling on NH 65 and for people not to stop their vehicles at isolated places on the NH 65.
