Nalgonda: Unidentified people stole ₹20 lakh from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Damaracherla by forcibly breaking open its cash chest in the early hours of Saturday.
According to initial reports, the suspects, wearing monkey caps, entered the ATM centre around 1.30 am. They reportedly sprayed black colour over the CCTV cameras to obstruct surveillance. Following this, the assailants breached the ATM's cash chest and made away with the money.
Locals found the vandalised ATM on Saturday morning and alerted the police. The Criminal Law Enforcement Under Supervision (CLUES) team collected evidence from the ATM, while a canine squad from Nalgonda was deployed to conduct searches in the surrounding area.
Police officials suspect that a group of four to five individuals was involved in the heist. Superintendent of police Sharat Chandra Pawar visited the ATM to assess the situation and spoke with the bank officials.
Pawar said that specialised police teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The Wadapally police have filed a case and started an investigation into the matter. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the crime to come forward to aid in the swift resolution of the case.
