No plans made to bring water from Kondapochamma to city: Water Board
Hyderabad:The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board on Wednesday dismissed BRS party working president KT Rama Rao’s allegations that an expensive project was being taken up to bring Godavari water to Osmansagar and Himayatsagar lakes.
On Rama Rao’s allegation that a Rs 5,500 crore project was drawn up for this purpose to bring water from Mallannasagar reservoir to the two lakes, the Board said the tendering process was still on. It also made it clear that the Board never prepared a Rs 1,100 crore scheme for the purpose to bring water from Kondapochamma reservoir as claimed by Rama Rao.
It said the Godavari Phase II project was designed to bring 15 TMCft of water from Mallannasagar via a 3,600 mm diameter pipeline till Ghanpur, from where water will be taken to Muttangi in a 2,400mm diameter pipeline and from then on to Osmansagar using a 2,200mm diameter pipeline.
This system will enable transfer of 5 TMC ft of water to the city lake towards the Musi river rejuvenation project. The same system will be used to fill the Shamirpet, Kishtareddypet, Gandhigudem, Bourampet, Dundigal, Sambhipur, and Goudavelli lakes within the Outer Ring Road between Kollur and Kandlakoya. The project envisaged filling up Osmansagar and Himayatsagar and supply 10 TMCft of water to meet drinking water needs of the city.
