Hyderabad: The 46-day Numaish, attracting around 50,000 visitors daily, is set to conclude on February 17. Celebrated as a family festivity, the event spans 19 acres and has been organised by the Exhibition Society for 84 years.
In response to a significant fire incident in 2019 that damaged over 100 shops, the society has bolstered safety protocols. Advanced firefighting technology now features 82 water hydrants—each equivalent to a fire engine — connected to two underground tanks with a 1.5 lakh-litre capacity each.
Vinay Kumar, convener for disaster management, explained that two trained personnel manage each hydrant, and the state fire department has stationed two additional fire engines on-site.
Enhanced security measures include daily checks at 1,800 shops by 300 security personnel and 200 police officers, ensuring a three-layer safety system throughout the carnival.
B. Surender Reddy, society secretary and a member for 25 years, emphasised that these measures reflected the organisation’s commitment to visitor safety and effective disaster management.
