Old City metro rail will be completed in four years: CM Revanth Reddy

Revanth Reddy said that the BRS government had neglected this project but the Congress government would make it a reality.

Intervening during the general discussion on the Budget, he responded emphatically to remarks made by AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi regarding development of the Old City.

He said "It is not Old City but the original Hyderabad city."

Reddy highlighted the role of former union urban development minister S. Jaipal Reddy in providing VGF (viable gap fund) for construction of Hyderabad Metro Rail. "In its 10 years rule, the BRS government failed to extend the metro rail services to the Old City," he remarked, pointing out the missed opportunities by the previous government.

Revanth Reddy outlined the proactive measures taken by his government upon assuming office. "Soon after coming to power, the Congress government laid the foundation stone for the metro rail in the Old City and submitted a report to the Centre for the second phase of the metro rail project, covering a 78-km stretch," he informed the House.

"Unlike the BRS rulers who promised to transform the Old City into Istanbul, Karimnagar as London and Warangal as New York, we will promise only what we can deliver. We promise to complete the Old City metro project in four years and we will accomplish it. By the next Assembly elections in December 2028, we will be traveling in the Old City by metro rail. We will complete the project even if the Centre does not provide funds."

Going further, Revanth Reddy said that he would ill be visiting Chandrayangutta (the constituency represented by Akbaruddin Owaisi) by Metro Rail and seek votes for Congress during the 2028 Assembly elections.
