Hyderabad:Osmania University (OU) cancelled the provisional affiliation of Hindi Mahavidyalaya Degree College, a private institution accused of forging results and falsifying records, and recommended the withdrawal of its autonomous status to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE).

An inquiry into the college’s activities revealed shocking irregularities during the 2019-2022 academic years. Manipulated results for undergraduate sixth-semester exams were submitted, with 49 students who had failed being falsely declared as passed, and five students who had passed being marked as failed.

Alarmed by discrepancies in the Tabulation Records (TR), OU initiated a thorough investigation, which exposed further evidence of academic malpractice.

According to the inquiry report, commerce papers were evaluated by unqualified faculty from the computer science department, and marks lists were tampered with. The college also failed to submit essential documents, including examination papers, evaluation records, and supplementary exam notifications.

For the UG 2023-2024 batch, TR records were missing required signatures and stamps from the principal and controller of examinations. Additionally, signatures of the additional controller of examinations were found to be forged, with incorrect results reported for 49 students across BCom, BSc, and BBA courses.

The college admitted to certain errors but failed to provide satisfactory explanations or take corrective action, despite repeated warnings. The inquiry committee, which visited the institution three times, recommended seizing the forged records and filing criminal cases against those responsible for forging signatures.

As part of the punitive measures, OU has allowed current students to complete their ongoing courses under the direct supervision of the university. However, the college has been instructed to cease undergraduate admissions from the 2025-2026 academic year. Postgraduate courses may continue under a non-autonomous status, with final semester exams now to be conducted directly by OU.

Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram, said, “Autonomous and affiliated institutions must strictly follow UGC and university regulations. There can be no compromise when it comes to academic integrity.”
