OU’s Prof. Satyanarayana to receive ISS lifetime achievement award
The award will be presented during the 49th All India Sociological Conference at BMU Munjal University, Gurugram, from December 22 to 24
HYDERABAD: Osmania University’s professor emeritus of sociology Prof. Gattu Satyanarayana has been nominated for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Sociological Society (ISS-New Delhi).
The award will be presented during the 49th All India Sociological Conference at BMU Munjal University, Gurugram, from December 22 to 24.
The nomination recognises Prof. Satyanarayana’s exceptional contributions to sociology, education, and research over a career spanning more than 35 years.
Currently serving as an professor emiretus under the UGC, he has significantly advanced the discipline through his teaching, research, and administrative roles at Osmania University.
Satyanarayana is a prolific academic, having published 10 research books covering topics like agrarian crises, rural development, gender studies, and the philosophical contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, and others. He has supervised 12 PhD scholars and nine MPhil candidates, apart from completing numerous research projects funded by acclaimed bodies such as UGC and ICSSR.
Beyond his academic achievements, Prof. Satyanarayana has held influential positions in Osmania University, including as principal of Arts College, director of Centre for Indian Ocean Studies, and head of the sociology department.
On the national firmament, he served as a member of the ICSSR Eminent Social Scientists Collegium and the editorial advisory committee of the sociological bulletin. Internationally, he has presented papers and chaired sessions in over 10 countries, including Germany, Canada and Australia.
Reflecting the latest honour, Prof. Satyanarayana said, “This recognition is a reflection of my lifelong dedication to sociology and the collaborative efforts of my peers and students.”
