Police Crack Down on Amateur Bike Racers, Many Arrested
Hyderabad: Raidurgam police arrested several youths involved in bike racing in Knowledge City on Tuesday. After several complaints, authorities targeted the roads in the IT corridor, including areas around T-Hub, Knowledge City, and the Satyam building, as part of an effort to curb nighttime disturbance.
According to police, the officers laid in wait to catch hold of them. Upon noticing the police presence, many youths attempted to flee on their bikes, leading to a chaotic scene.
With all escape routes blocked, some youths abandoned their bikes and ran on foot, resulting in the arrest of several individuals, said sub-inspector Vijay Kumar.
The police seized 10 motorcycles and filed cases against them for racing. All of them were aged between 25 and 30 and belonged to Mehdipatnam, Old City, SR Nagar, and Borabanda.
The crackdown follows a previous incident, where 50 individuals were booked for similar activities in the area. The recurring incident has prompted the police to be vigilant and catch hold of the offenders.
A night shift worker expressed her concerns about the ongoing issue: "As a woman working late hours, the reckless behaviour of these racers makes me feel very unsafe. I hope the authorities continue their efforts to make us feel safe. The roads were all blocked with these people creating chaos at night asking them to feel more vulnerable to the situation,” said Arpita Kokanti, a private employee.
The police plan to increase patrols and implement more stringent checks in the area to prevent future incidents and will continue strict action against the offenders, the police.
