Police didn't enter my office but levelling allegations of absconding: RGV
Varma also wondered why people were now more concerned about memes he posted roughly an year ago
Hyderabad: Ace director Ram Gopal Varma, responding to the FIRs filed against him in four different districts of Andhra Pradesh, said that he has not been absconding as reported by the media. He said he was very much in Maharashtra, busy attending his film work, while even Chennai police was also directed to hunt him down, with allegations that he was absconding.
Taking to X.com, Varma put up a long post "My take on my case" in which he claimed that the police did not even enter his den office nor did they approach him saying that he was arrested. Why did not the police enter my office if they wanted to arrest me, he asked.
Varma also wondered why people were now more concerned about memes he posted roughly an year ago.
The FIRs filed against Varma were relating to the social media posts by him as part of promotional campaign of his film Vyooham, that chronicled the floating of YSRC party by former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the factors that prompted him to do so after the death of his father, late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, in a chopper clash. The FIRs were filed taking objection to the morphed images posted on social media depicting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan in poor light.
The director felt that numerous cases being filed against him at the same time were part of a bigger conspiracy against him.
He also felt that in the social media age, individuals have more freedom of expression on digital platforms. Several people from political leaders to common men can express their thoughts and if memes posted by him could prompt people to file cases, half of the country would be dealing with legal cases only.
He said he switched off his phone only to avoid incessant media and related calls which were disturbing his work.
Alleging that the media cooked up stories against him, he urged the people not to believe in those news reports.
