HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday said Telangana has all the makings of being a possible destination for companies looking at China Plus model. Plans are on to have a rail network also along the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR). The proposed rail link will serve as a vital link between industrial zones, ensuring smoother transportation of goods and enhancing connectivity between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and RRR.

The state will have a best in class ease of doing business and has plans to promote solar clusters and have a road network to Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh to compensate for being a landlocked state, he said.

Participating in the inauguration of CII National Council meeting in Hyderabad, he said Telangana is rapidly emerging as a leader in India’s economic landscape. The government is working to transform Hyderabad into a global service sector hub.

“The Future City will compete with cities like New York, London, Tokyo, Seoul and Dubai. We want to build a great city in India. It will only have the service sector. We aim to make the Future City a pollution-free, net zero city. We are buying 3,200 EV buses for RTC. We have done away with registration and road tax for electric vehicles. Telangana is the fastest selling state for electric vehicles in India," he said, adding that the state government is laying out an extensive roadmap to boost infrastructure, sustainability, and connectivity, he said.

He said Telangana is positioning itself as a viable alternative to China by fostering manufacturing hubs along the RRR, focusing on industries like pharmaceuticals, life sciences, aerospace, defence, electric vehicles (EVs), and solar energy.

“The state is also establishing solar power clusters, driven by women’s self-help groups. With a target of producing 1,000 megawatts of solar energy, these solar initiatives empower rural communities and also position Telangana as a leader in renewable energy adoption,” the chief minister said.

"Hyderabad is preparing to face natural calamities. We want to make Hyderabad a flood-free city. With the rejuvenation of Musi river, about 55-km stretch will have fresh water flow. We have started the necessary activities for ensuring drinking water needs even beyond 2050," he said.

Revanth Reddy said the government is also making significant strides in trade connectivity.

“Telangana is planning the construction of a dry port to compensate for its lack of a coastline. This will be connected via railway lines and roads, creating smoother export and import channels, boosting regional trade, and positioning Telangana as a key player in global logistics,” he said.

Furthermore, Telangana is focusing on skill development to bridge the gap between education and employment. The state has set up a Skill University modeled on ISB, with Anand Mahindra as chairman. It is working to create a corpus of about `600 crore for the university. The modules to be offered in it will be designed by the industry. The state is transforming ITIs into advanced training centres in partnership with the Tata Group. The state produces over 1.1 lakh engineering graduates annually, he said.

Women’s empowerment remains a key focus in Telangana. The state has mobilised 67 lakh women into self-help groups. Among others, it is creating opportunities through canteens in government offices and solar power projects. As Telangana takes steps to transform its economic landscape, it envisions creating a future-ready, sustainable, and economically vibrant state, he further said. The chief minister also laid the foundation stone of Green Business Centre Building-2.
