Hyderabad:Those who want to apply for a ration card can do so in the MeeSeva centres despite the model code of conduct (MCC) being in effect in the state for the February 27 Legislative Council elections. The cards will be issued only after the code ends, and the civil supplies department hopes to complete the process in the meantime.

Sources in the department said that in the meantime beneficiaries can also seek addition of members and apply for changes in the cards in the MeeSeva centres. Those who have given applications during Praja Palana and Prajavani need not apply again as the same are being processed. They further informed that the process of issuing cards is a continuous process.

The applications will be reviewed by the deputy tahsildar of civil supplies department for field verification, and then move via the mandal revenue officer, the district civil supplies officer and reach the district collector. Approved applications will be sent to the commissioner of the civil supplies department for final approval.

Responding to reports that some MeeSeva centres were selling applications, officials said it was illegal. The application form, they said, has to be given free of cost. They have asked people not to approach touts and asked them to complain to the police if such instances are found. They further informed that so far more than 30,000 applications have been received.

The government has also started taking applications for new food security cards (FSC) at MeeSeva centres. Applicants need to pay `45 for user charges and scanning charges of `2 per page after 5 pages.

For deletion of member names from existing FSCs, no provision is available in MeeSeva at present and the card holders need to visit the concerned civil supplies office for the same.

Citizens who have already applied through Prajapalana/Grama Sabha or previously submitted their applications on the MeeSeva portal are not required to apply again.

In case of any complaints, citizens can call on 1100 or 18004251110.
