Hyderabad:Red-coloured water flowing on the road in Venkatadrinagar, near the Jeedimetla Industrial Estate in Hyderabad on Monday evening, alarmed residents. The water, did not have any chemical smell. Authorities collected samples for testing to check if chemicals were involved.

“The water flowed between 6.30 and 8 pm on Monday,” said B. Rajender, a regional officer with the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TSPCB). “There was no smell, which would be present if chemicals were in the water. We think it could be paint, as people sometimes dispose of paint into the drainage.”

The drainage system in the area is connected to a larger sewer line. Authorities are investigating if the water came from a blocked manhole or another drainage issue. HMWS&SB (Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board) confirmed that the water was not linked to sewage or drainage problems.

“If it had been a chemical, it would have left stains on the road, but that didn’t happen,” Rajender said. “We are still trying to find out where the water came from and will continue checking today and tomorrow.”
