Hyderabad: The Musi rejuvenation project will not only see the river become live again but the project’s associated development will result in creation of large number of jobs, industries and IT minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Tuesday.

Answering a series of questions on the subject from BRS and AIMIM MLCs, the minister said the rejuvenation project would also create large swathes of employment opportunities and that the government would ensure these for local artisans. “The Musi river will become a great growth promoter,” he said.

Standing in for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during the Question House in the Legislative Council, Sridhar Babu said some manufactured concerns were being raised by members of opposition party BRS.

“Among them is that the project is going to cost Rs 1.50 lakh crore. This figure has nothing to do with the Musi project, but was an approximation of funds required for a slew of other development works. A detailed project report is being prepared and only after that will an estimated cost of the project be arrived at,” he said.

To a question on whether industries letting their effluents into the river will be shut down, he said all the government will have a professional consultant to study industrial pollution of the Musi and those causing this problem, will need relocation.
