 Khammam: With floodwater receding, relief measures have intensified in flood-hit colonies in Khammam on Wednesday.

Kits carrying groceries, bed sheets and clothes have been distributed to the residents of Rajiv Gruha Kalpa Colony, Venkateshwara Nagar, Saradhi Nagar, Ganesh Nagar and Dainawaigudem which have submerged under Munneru floodwater by special teams of Khammam municipality.

Rice and groceries were distributed to people of Narsimhylagudem which was affected by the floods. Sanitation staff removed wastes plied up in the colonies and sprayed washing powder.

Minister for revenue Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and minister for agriculture Tummala Nageshwar Rao personally supervised the relief measures in Khammam.

Not caring the rain, Tummala Nageshwar Rao visited Saradhi Nagar and supervised the relief measures. He instructed officials to act firmly in solving the problems being faced by the people in flood-affected areas.

Srinivas Reddy visited Danawaigudem, Theerdala and Ramannapet in Khammam rural mandal and Cheruvu Madaram, Kattu Kacharam, Ramachandrapuram and Surepally mandal in Nelakondapally mandal. He consoled the families in flood-affected areas. He asked people not to lose the confidence in the time of calamity.

He instructed the officials repair damaged roads and restore road connectivity. He directed officials of TG Transco to restore electricity supply to all villages. He made suggestions to officials on the collection of details about the flood-affected families. Fine rice would be distributed to the families in place of their rice soaked in flood water.

Extended cheque of Rs 5 lakh to Yakub family

The minister handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the family of Sheik Yakub and his wife Saida Bhi, who were washed away in floods at Nayakangudem of Kusumanchi mandal.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said a house site would also be allocated to the family. The state government would help all the flood-affected families, he added.
