Revanth Vows Fair Share to Kurmas Across Fields
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday said that the Congress government would ensure that the Kurma community will get its rightful share in all sectors in proportion to their population, following the completion of the ongoing caste census.
He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Doddi Komuraiah Kurma Bhavan’ at Kokapet.
Addressing a large gathering of the community members, Reddy praised them for their trustworthiness and gentle nature, while also highlighting their contribution to Telangana history. He paid rich tributes to Doddi Komuraiah and described him as a ‘great fighter’, who played a pivotal role in the armed peasant struggle.
"It feels great to inaugurate this bhavan. The government will ensure that all necessary facilities are provided to support the community, and enable their children to pursue quality education," he said.
Taking a swipe at the BRS government, he criticised their inaction regarding diet and cosmetic charges for students in social welfare residential schools. He stressed the Congress government's focus on improving educational standards and supporting weaker sections through welfare schemes such as crop loan waiver, free electricity, Indiramma houses, and subsidised gas cylinders.
The Chief Minister highlighted Telangana's leadership in conducting a caste census, likening it to a "mega health check-up." He revealed that 98 per cent of the caste census has been completed, with the remaining portion set to conclude soon. Once finalised, he assured the Kurma community a rightful representation based on population data.
"Congress has already given party tickets to two leaders from the Kurma community and another two to the Yadav community. Political representation will continue to improve if your candidates are elected," he remarked, urging unity within the community irrespective of political affiliations.
Meanwhile, Reddy acknowledged the role of government whips in addressing community grievances, specifically mentioning the work of whip Beerla Ilayya from the Kurma community.
"This government is yours. It is my responsibility to address your concerns and ensure that you receive your rightful share in political and financial matters," Reddy said.
He promised to take up measures to ensure that Komuraiah's legacy would be remembered forever.
